I call this photo: Usability as an Afterthought
The panel was likely made to be used on all floors with a button for up and a button for down. Except, for some reason, this lowest-level panel was installed with the Up button on the bottom.
“Stick a label on it!” only helps if people can read with their eyes (English, in this case). What happens to folks who are neurospicy, non-English speakers, or Blind folks? They get frustrated.
The #1 rule in my Usability book is, “Don’t frustrate your users.”
