CASE STUDY
Retool
This logistics platform brings together every aspect of transportation and trade operations, including sales, purchasing, invoicing, shipments, and financial tracking. Users can manage and review records across departments, generate key documents as PDFs, and store them securely in Amazon S3. The application provides a consistent experience across roles, making it easier to track order progress, analyze profitability, and coordinate shipments—all from one place.
CHALLENGE
Design and deliver a full-featured internal application to manage complex
logistics workflows—spanning sales orders, purchase orders, invoicing,
shipments, and accounting—on a short timeline and with a lean development
team.
A transportation and logistics company was relying on disconnected
spreadsheets and ad-hoc systems to manage core operational workflows.
This delayed access to real-time data, and introduced errors in tasks such as
shipment tracking, invoice generation, and revenue reporting. The client
needed a single, centralized application that could unify these business
functions. However, traditional development timelines and resource
constraints made building a custom application from scratch impractical.
SOLUTION
Using Retool’s powerful low-code platform, we designed and deployed a
custom logistics application that delivered consistency, automation, and real-
time visibility across operations.
We connected Retool to multiple data sources—including PostgreSQL and
REST APIs—to unify operational data. Sales orders, purchase orders,
shipments, and accounting data were modeled with customized views and
forms, using dynamic logic and validation tailored to each workflow. Retool’s
reusable components and modular structure allowed us to maintain a
cohesive user experience while reducing duplication across tools.
To support document generation, we built custom Retool components that
enabled users to create PDF documents for each major area of the
application, including invoices, purchase orders, weight lists. These
documents were automatically stored in Amazon S3, providing a centralized,
secure, and scalable solution for document management.
Role-based access controls ensured that each user could securely access
only the tools relevant to their responsibilities.
RESULTS
The logistics platform streamlined operations by unifying workflows that
were previously managed across multiple disconnected systems. .
The application eliminated redundant data entry and automated key
processes such as invoice creation, shipment tracking, and profit/loss
reporting. Custom PDF generation and Amazon S3 integration brought
structure to document management and simplified compliance needs. The
flexibility and consistency of the Retool platform has empowered the client to
continuously improve their tools while keeping development efficient and
maintainable.
